چکیده

Light is the ultimate energy source for all living organisms and is utilized primarily through photosynthesis by green plants. However there is a separate requirement of plants to be illuminated in which light acts not as an energy source but as an environmental trigger of developmental processes. This decisive role of light in controlling the growth of plants is described by the term "photomorphogenesis'. Photomorphogenesis is an essential feature of all land plants; in fact the normal development of higher plants is photomorphogenesis (1). Thus photomorphogenetic responses include the germination of seeds, the elongation and direction of growth of the main axis, the expansion of leaves, the development of chloroplasts, the synthesis of pigments and the formation of flowers. Seedlings grown from seed entirely in darkness lack chlorophyll and differ greatly in morphology from those grown under a normal photoperiod; the leaves remain unexpanded while the stems elongate greatly. Such plants are termed "etiolated" and the etiolated response is regarded as an adaptive one; the energy reserves from the seed are used to promote growth in length at the expense of growth in area, so as to increase the chance of bringing the embryonic leaves above the soil surface before the reserves are exhausted. This chance is greatly enhanced by the phototropic response, which ensures that the etiolated stem grows towards the light source and not away from it. Exposure of etiolated seedlings to light slows down the rate of stem elongation and triggers the rapid formation of photosynthetically-active chloroplasts in expanding leaves. This "de-etiolation" process provides a useful experimental system which has provided much of the biochemical evidence that we have regarding photomorphogenesis. The morphogenetic effects of light are not related to the use of light as an energy source. For example, the effects of light on the development of etiolated seedlings are initiated before the pathway of photosynthesis is operational, and require amounts of

Cloning and Expression Analysis of ZmERD3 Gene From Zea mays

Background: Stresses (such as drought, salt, viruses, and others) seriously affect plant productivity. To cope with these threats, plants express a large number of genes, including several members of ERD (early responsive to dehydration) genes to synthesize and assemble adaptive molecules. But, the function of ERD3 gene hasn’t been known so far.Objectives:</strong...

Root-localized phytochrome chromophore synthesis is required for photoregulation of root elongation and impacts root sensitivity to jasmonic acid in Arabidopsis.

Plants exhibit organ- and tissue-specific light responses. To explore the molecular basis of spatial-specific phytochrome-regulated responses, a transgenic approach for regulating the synthesis and accumulation of the phytochrome chromophore phytochromobilin (PΦB) was employed. In prior experiments, transgenic expression of the BILIVERDIN REDUCTASE (BVR) gene was used to metabolically inactivat...

The transient expression of coat protein of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) in spinach (Spinacia oleracea) using Agroinfiltration

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a very dangerous livestock disease which causes a serious loss in the production of milk and meat. Therefore, producing an effective recombinant subunit vaccine virus this disease is of great importance. Transient gene expression is a valuable tool to reach rapid and acceptable recombinant vaccine. An Agrobacterium-mediated transient gene expression assay was car...

Patterns of mitochondrial gene expression in rapeseed leaves (Brassica napus L.) at early growth stage in response to drought stress

Drought stress adversely affects a plant’s growth and productivity. Wide ranges of molecular disorders could be caused by the production of reactive oxygen radicals. Plant cells have developed potential systems to prevent such damage by scavenging and reducing the reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, both the genotypes of oilseed rape-tolerant and sensitive to drought-were exposed to p...

Transient Expression of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) Coat Protein in Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacom) via Agroinfiltration

Background: Transient and stable transformation of host plants are the common techniques to produce transgenic plants. However, the main drawback of stable transformation is the fact that it takes quite a long time to produce a transgenic line. While, transient gene expression is a quick method to produce recombinant proteins in plants.  Objective: The main goal of the present study was to eva...

Codon optimization and cloning of bovine prochymosin gene for proper expression in tobacco plant

Bovine chymosin enzyme is one of the most commonly used enzymes in the dairy industry. The production of this enzyme from its natural source does not meet the needs of this huge industry. The production of recombinant bovine chymosin in plants can be a good alternative to native enzyme. Insertion and expression of foreign genes in plants can occur in the nucleus and chloroplast organelles. The ...
